24 HOUR FILM CHALLENGE: ONCE UPON A TIME IN BUTTE

23feb(feb 23)6:00 pm24(feb 24)6:00 pm24 HOUR FILM CHALLENGE: ONCE UPON A TIME IN BUTTE

Event Details

This is open to all ages and skill levels. You are welcome to record on iPhones, go pros, small video cameras, professional cameras. EVERYONE IS WELCOME.
We will meet on the second floor of the Carpenters Union Hall. 156 W Granite St in Uptown Butte.

At the beginning of the competition, the filmmakers are given three Elements that must be incorporated into their film – a Prop (for example a Broom), an Action (for example, pushing a button) and a Theme (for example, Identity Theft).

Using these Elements, the filmmakers then have 24 hours to write, film, edit and submit a completed short film, up to 5 minutes in length. All that is needed to participate is a camera — any camera, your phone will do! — and an interest in making films. Individuals can participate, but it’s encouraged to sign up as a group of up to 4 people.

The 24 Hour Challenge will take place Feb 23rd at 8pm, until Feb 24th at 8pm. Saturday we will screen all the films in competition and the audience will vote for awards.

The theme for this challenge will be “Once Upon a Time in Butte.”

Hosted by Dear Butte February Resident Jess Burgess

Jess Burgess eats, dreams, and breathes stories. Growing up in the Appalachian mountains, she developed a love for eccentric characters and the haunting drawl of cicadas in the summer night.

Today, Jess is a director of fever dream content and co-owner of Little Animals Pictures, a Brooklyn-based production company.  She also teaches producing at NYU and Feirstein Graduate School. Her work has shown at 25 festivals across the continent, including SXSW, Sundance, and HotDocs. She doesn’t like to brag, but she can also make a mean meatloaf.
