Event Details

December Resident Naomi Kimball will be doing an author reading and discussion on writing.

Here’s more from Naomi:

“My maternal family comes from Butte and Anaconda, and while I’ve visited these places, I’ve never spent much time in them. My novel, Ruin, takes elements of each and mixes in a bit of Missoula, my own hometown, and hints of the Classical World (another ancestral place) to explore their generational emotional impact. The arsenic and sulfur in Anaconda under which my mother spent her childhood were as metaphorically poisonous as they were literal. She was incredibly proud of Anaconda and was ebullient when she spoke of it, but she also spent days in bed, depressed, claiming it was because she was Slavic, that there was something endemic to this ancestry that overshadowed her, but this never adequately explained the darkness, anger, and longing I saw in her and later myself. I will read a short excerpt from Ruin and talk about the process of writing it.”
