What songs do you listen to on repeat? Which ones do sing out loud? And how about the ballads that make you cry? When you put them all together, they become a journey, a series of moods for the listener to inhabit. This is the mixtape.
In this workshop, we’ll be making poems inspired by the mixtape. We’ll start with a few writing exercises and prompts to activate the imagination. Then we’ll take the fruits of this labor and begin crafting poems, borrowing techniques and principles that define the mixtape form. Finally, we’ll explore ways of speaking our poetry aloud that engages the full potential of the voice.
This workshop is for teens interested poetry, storytelling, and those who just love words and music.
