Event Details

March resident Susan Elizabeth Shepard. Susan is a reporter and writer currently living in Portland, Oregon. She’s written about college football and free speech, stripping during the Bakken boom, helped found Tits and Sass and I’m on Twitter. Susan has reported and voiced two episodes of the Boomtown podcast for Texas Monthly. Here’s a brief current resume.

Susan’s presentation is Private Dancers and Public Trading: Strip clubs became “gentlemen’s clubs” and big business at the turn of the 21st century. She will talk about the main reasons that happened, how dancers are seen as workers, and give her first-person perspective on changes in the business since she started working in clubs in the 1990s. Susan will also talk about how Montana’s own laws are unique and Butte’s reaction when the new kind of club came around.
