An Evening with Métis Storyteller, Chris La Tray

Spend 90 minutes with Métis writer, poet, and storyteller Chris La Tray in a discussion of his writing life. In addition to a reading featuring poetry written during his Dear Butte residency, La Tray—an enrolled member of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians—will discuss his process, how that process has lead to workshops related to he practice of writing poetry pursued as a spiritual one, and how “all the work” has all overlapped into other writing-adjacent opportunities.

Chris La Tray is a Métis writer and storyteller. His first book, One-Sentence Journal: Short Poems and Essays From the World At Large (2018, Riverfeet Press) won the 2018 Montana Book Award and a 2019 High Plains Book Award. A book of haiku and haibun poetry called Descended From a Travel-worn Satchel was published by Foothills Publishing in September, 2021. A book of nonfiction, Becoming Little Shell, will be published by Milkweed Editions in 2022.
